BJP MLA aide who was with Tejasvi Surya arrested over the Bengaluru bed racket.
Bangalore South MP and BJP youth wing leader Tejasvi Surya a few weeks ago accused some list of Muslim staffs working at the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike for Covid-19 patients bed scam without any evidence. Just reading the 17 names and posting the video on the Twitter page, the incident caused a stir across India.
Nearly 203 employees work on a shift basis. Despite allegations of fraud in the entire BBMP for allocating beds to those Covid infected patients, questions arise that what basis Tejaswi Surya blamed only the names of Muslim employees.
Two days after, this incident provoked strong opposition from the BJP and Tejaswi Surya. Tejaswi Surya went to the BBMP war room and said, “I personally have nothing against you and I apologize if anyone or any community has been affected by my actions.” News18 Media published the news. But Surya’s office denied it.
Shivu Naik, project manager of Crystal Infosystems, a company that employs volunteers for Covid War Rooms, told News18 “All our staff were scared, after Surya’s sudden visit and the issue turning into political. Many of them have stayed away from work. In fact, it affects all Covid-coordination the last two days. We have tried to reassure them that enquiries happen, those who have done nothing wrong have nothing to fear. But perhaps it was because work was suffering that Surya came again, we are not sure what prompted the second visit,”
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has ordered a CCB inquiry into the allegations. Bangalore Central Crime Branch police, who are investigating the scam, arrested a key aide of BJP MLA Satish Reddy, also known as Babu, two days ago. The accused is said to be known to Bommanahalli MLA Satish Reddy, who had earlier claimed to have exposed the bed allotment scam.
Satish Reddy was present on May 4 when Tejasvi Surya when he read out the names of 17 Muslim employees, whom no charges had been proved. It is noteworthy that then BJP MLA Satish and his supporters attacked IAS officer Yashwant.
Bangalore police have arrested two more associates of Satish Reddy alias Varun and Yashwant in connection with the case. Varun is a War Room Helpline employee. The total number of people to be arrested in this case has risen to 11. Babu is considered a key suspect in this. However, Satish Reddy has denied any involvement in the scam. He also said he was only trying to get beds for his people.
Earlier in May, the IAS officers’ union in Karnataka had urged the Bangalore police commissioner to take action against Satish Reddy’s supporters for their improperly handling of the IAS officer.
