The news of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin topping the list of top 10 chief ministers in India with 68%, followed by Kerala Chief Minister pinarayi Vijayan has been circulated by the supporters of DMK party in social media.
Various pictures are being shared to congratulate Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin for this. Some of those pictures mention the name of a website called Crown Wisdom who have apparently published the results, according to it. On what basis did this survey were conducted? Who actually published it? Who topped their survey before Stalin? Lets look further.
Who conducted the study?
The Crowd Wisdom 360 did not carry out this study as noted in the photos. The Wisdom website is actually a quiz website that tests a person’s knowledge on a variety of topics. The Crowd Wisdom 360 approaches these quizzes as a game.
The site had a blog titled “India’s Best Chief Minister”. In it it is reported that the poll was conducted by a company called Ormax. So the survey was made by Ormax not Crowd Wisdom 360.
Launched in 2008, Ormax Media was established as an insight Consulting Agency for the Indian Media and Entertainment. They publish a monthly poll on popular topics such as politics and cinema.
“Who are the famous Tamil actors of this month”, “Which is the best TV show?” are some of the topics they have done their survey. According to their website, polls are conducted telephonically with an approximate sample size of 1000 to 2000 people.
Regarding politics, they publish the “Best Chief Ministers” survey once in every month starting from February 2020.
Chief Minister Approval Rating (June 2021): Recently-elected (or re-elected) Chief Ministers take four of the top 5 #CMApprovalRating spots for the month of June.

An important point to note here is that they do not actually use the word “best” in their political opinion polls, instead they are using the term “Approval rating” which means the cultural basis of this survey is “Do the people accept the Chief minister or not?” The winner does not translate. He is the best. MK Stalin tops with 68% approval in the july 2021 version of the survey. Pinarayi Vijayan with 67% and Naveen Patnaik with 63% gets second and third place respectively.
Who were the frontrunners in the previous polls?
May 2021 – Pinarayi Vijayan
April 2021 – Naveen Patnaik
March 2021 – Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh)
January 2021 – Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh)

Just like “Approval rating” for Chief Ministers, Ormax had collabed with the popular News Organisation ‘Times Now’ to conduct a study on Prime Minister’s Approval rating and have published the results of the study, in the past.
Since last year, Ormax Media has been publishing these results on a monthly basis under the title CM approval rating. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has topped the list several times. In June 2021, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin took the top spot. This is the result of a poll released by Ormax Media, not Crowd Wisdom.
