In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, India broke previous records with 64.2 crore votes cast—a historic number!

According to the Chief Election Commissioner, 64.20 crore Indians cast ballots in this election, setting a new global record!

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1 for 543 constituencies. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has announced that India has set a world record with 64.20 crore voters voting in this election. Furthermore, 31.2 crore women voted, making it the largest female voter base worldwide. However, it’s crucial to remember that this number excludes postal votes.

Record-setting 2024 Lok Sabha Elections:

In the 2019 general election, the total number of voters was 91.2 crore, in the 2024 general election, it has increased to 96.8 crore. Out of which 64.20 crore voters have voted in this election. This is 1.5 times more than the total number of voters in the G7 countries: USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada.

Additionally, only 39 re-polls have been held this year, compared to 540 in the 2019 general election. The Chief election Commissioner stated that over 68 thousand monitoring teams, 1.5 crore polling booth employees, and security people were a part of the electoral process.

Voter share for the general election in 2024:

In the seven-phase general elections of 2024, 65.79 percent of Indian voters cast ballots. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, 67.40 percent of votes were cast, but it is evident that this number has declined. Below is a summary of the voter turnout percentages for each election phase based on how they have been reported.

First Phase Election: Polling was held on April 19, 2024, for 102 constituencies in 17 states and four union territories, including 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu. In this, 66.14 percent of votes have been reported.

Second Phase Election: Polling was held on April 26, 2024 in 88 constituencies in 13 states and union territories, including 20 constituencies in Kerala. In this, 66.71 percent of votes have been reported.

Third Phase Election: Polling was held on May 7, 2024, in 93 constituencies across 11 states and union territories. In this, 65.68 percent of votes have been reported.

Fourth Phase Election: Voting was held on May 13, 2024, in 96 constituencies across 10 states and union territories. In this, 69.16 percent of votes have been reported.

Fifth Phase Elections: Elections took place on May 20, 2024, in 49 constituencies across six states and two union territories. In this, 62.20 percent of votes have been reported.

Sixth Phase Elections: Elections took place on May 25, 2024, in 58 constituencies across eight states and union territories. In this, 63.37 percent of votes have been reported.

Seventh Phase Elections: On June 1, 2024, in 57 constituencies across eight states and union territories, the elections were held. In this, 63.88 percent of votes have been reported.

State-wise polling percentage:

According to a breakdown of polling places by state, Assam had the greatest voter participation (81.56%) among states, while Lakshadweep had the highest voter turnout (84.16%) among Union Territories. The vote percentage in Tamil Nadu is 69.72%.

With 56.19 percent of the vote, Bihar ranks last among the states.
