Tamil Nadu’s new record in paddy production in 20 years!

In the last twenty years, Tamil Nadu has set a new record in paddy production. The Tamil Nadu government’s statistical report has revealed that 1.22 crore metric tonnes of rice have been produced as the highest production in the last 20 years.

In the year 2000-2001, about 1,11,60,711 lakh metric tons of rice were produced in Tamil Nadu’s paddy fields of about 20,80,010 hectares.

Despite various risks faced by the rice-producing farmers in Tamil Nadu, especially the Cauvery river water problem, the issues on the date of opening of irrigation water, as well as the failure of the northeast monsoon and the opening of irrigation water from Mettur Dam, rice producers in Tamil Nadu have been farming for the past several years. It is only through such tragedies that they have realized such achievements.

Due to the timely opening of irrigation water for paddy cultivation, the current year 2021-2022 has been favourable for high production in paddy cultivation. In the year 2021-22, rice has been grown in an area of 22,05,470 hectares and about 1,22,22,46 metric tons of rice has been cultivated in the year 2021-22.

This statistical report of the Tamil Nadu government is a rebuttal to the people who are generally complaining that paddy production and its fields are decreasing due to industrial development in the last few years.
