With the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu looming, various political party leaders and candidates will have to file nominations and submit affidavits to the Election Commission detailing their property value, criminal background and outstanding debt.
The affidavit filed by Seeman, the coordinator of the Naam Tamilar Party, who is contesting in Tiruvottiyur constituency, states that the total income shown in the income tax return for the year 2019-20 is Rs.1000. Seeman has been going viral on social media with reports that he has mentioned an annual income of just Rs.1000.
Meanwhile, The Hindu, an English newspaper, published a section on the income and assets of Tamil Nadu political leaders.
According to Seeman’s information to the Election Commission, Seeman’s annual income has dropped from Rs 12,716 in 2018-2019 to Rs 1,000 in 2019-2020. At the same time, his wife’s annual income has increased from Rs 7,036 in 2018-2019 to Rs 72,820 in 2019-2020. Therefore, the income of his wife is Rs.73,820, according to The Hindu.
Seeman’s 2019-2020 income is reported to be Rs.1000. Rupees thousand is not his income tax payment. There is no mention of that anywhere.
