Seeman, the co-ordinator of the NTK Party, had said that he would contest the Kolathur constituency where DMK leader MK Stalin is contesting the 2021 assembly elections. But, suddenly he announced that he would contest in Tiruvottiyur constituency.
Seeman says that the reason for his decision is, “I am there to protest against the Adani Group’s port expansion plan at the Ennore. 350 acres of land there were given to Adani during the Karunanidhi regime. They can’t start anything new here. However, they have agreed to expand. For this, out of 6,111 acres, 2,000 acres under the sea, 2,000 acres on land and 2,000 acres on the river are to be expanded. This will affect the livelihoods of millions of people. If Adani port arrives, other ports will be closed. I am competing here because I am constrained to oppose this.
Moreover, Ennore has become an area where people can no longer live due to grey mounds. I decided it would be okay if we just stood there, ” quoted by BBC news article.
It has been mentioned in the web posts of the Naam Tamil Party that the Ponneri constituency is responsible for the protests and cyber protests on behalf of the party against the expansion of the Kattupalli Adani port.
News agencies are also posting the explanation given by Seeman regarding contesting in Tiruvottiyur constituency. However, the Kattupalli area falls under the Ponneri. Seeman will not be able to compete there as it is reserved for candidates from the Scheduled Castes.
In this context, questions are being raised on social media as to why Seeman is contesting in that constituency and claiming to oppose the Adani port on Twitter by Rajiv Gandhi, who left the Tamil Party and joined the DMK.
To this, Idumbavanam Karthik of the NTK Party responded to Rajiv Gandhi’s tweet by saying, “Not everyone can compete in the separate Ponneri constituency and even if the project comes within the Ponneri constituency, its impact will be entirely within the Tiruvottiyur area”
There is misinformation in what Seeman told the BBC . ” 350 acres of land was given to Adani during the Karunanidhi regime. ” But this is misinformation. The Kattupalli Shipyard and Port were leased to Larsen & Toubro India in 2008 and where it happened during Jayalalithaa’s rule.
