Tejasvi Surya is the Member of Parliament from Bangalore South constituency and he has got the BJP ticket to contest in the 2019 Parliamentary Elections. Social media started ridiculing Tejasvi Surya after Ashok Swain and Prashant Bhusan recently shared the picture of Tejasvi Surya pouring water on a globe, with a caption to mock him. The captions said water was poured on the globe to tackle Climate Change.
The virally shared image was taken in 2019. It was published on 3rd July 2019 by Parmarth Niketan on its Facebook page as well as its Twitter page. Parmarth Niketan is an Ashram located in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
The Ashram is headed by its President and a spiritual leader who goes by the name H.H.Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati. He is the one who is seen next to Tejasvi Surya in the picture that is viral now.
The picture was taken on the occasion of Ganga Aarti that was held in July 2019. A video of Tejasvi Surya speaking at the event is uploaded to Paramarth Niketan’s YouTube page.
However, there was no mention of Climate Change or Global Warming by him during the event.
We were able to find various photos of many celebrities and public figures pouring water on the globe. Interestingly one such photo was published as we were writing this article.
The long list of public figures that poured water on the globe in front of the spiritual leader Swami Chidanand includes Former President Ramnath Kovind, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachhan, and H Raja.
There were similar memes or claims made at the time when Former President Ramnath Kovind poured water on the globe. This act of pouring water over a globe is described as a ‘Water Blessing Ceremony’ in a News Article.
Swami Chidanand also has an initiative called Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA), involving people from various religions across the world, which works to ensure clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
As part of this Alliance, he can be seen with people from various faiths performing the act of pouring water on model earth (globe).
But we were not able to find the specific reason why this is being done. So, we called the Paramarth Niketan directly to hear straight from the horse’s mouth. We enquired about the significance of pouring water on a globe but we were not provided with any explanation. Instead, we were asked to come to the Ashram to ask the Swami directly. Thus, we do not know the significance or meaning of pouring water on the globe.
Tejasvi Yadav is currently targeted on social media currently by Congress supporters for his silence regarding the Bengaluru floods amidst the criticism that the BJP government machinery has failed. After several days of silence and ridicule from social media, like the one that prompted this article, Tejasvi Surya called the criticism of the BJP Government regarding the Bengaluru floods, a conspiracy to defame Bangalore.
