Food served to Kabaddi players in the toilet in UP.

A video of kabaddi players in Uttar Pradesh being served food that is kept on the floor of a stadium toilet is going viral on social media across India.

The State Level Kabaddi Championship for girls under 16 was held at the Bhimrao Ambedkar Stadium in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh on September 16.

Accommodation and food arrangements were provided at the stadium for the participants.

In the viral video, food including rice and puri for the kabaddi players who participated in the tournament can be seen kept on the toilet floor. The women served themselves the food that is kept on the toilet floor. Apart from that, cooking utensils and pan with oil can be seen in the urinal area of the toilet.

Saharanpur District Sports Officer Animesh Saxena said, “Because it was raining, we made arrangements for food in the swimming pool area. The food was kept in the changing room next to the swimming pool. Some construction work is being done in the stadium and there was no other place to keep the food because of the rain”, NDTV reported.

Various parties including Congress and YSR Congress have condemned the incident of serving food to female kabaddi players in the toilet and are questioning if this is the respect given to sportspersons in UP.

The state government has sacked Saharanpur District Sports Officer Animesh Saxena after the viral video sparked controversy and condemnation. The District Judge has issued an order to conduct an investigation and submit a report in this regard within 3 days.
