Video of two tribal women thrashed, stripped in WB’s Malda is falsely shared as BJP candidate.

A heart-wrenching video of two women paraded naked in Manipur has caused huge outrage across the country. After this incident, another video purportedly showing a couple of tribal women being thrashed and stripped half-naked is being circulated on social media. This video is said to have happened in West Bengal’s Malda under Bamangola police station.

This video created statewide outrage. And BJP leaders and supporters shared it to condemn Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of TMC-led West Bengal. Some of the Twitter handles also shared the video with false claims that the victims in the viral video are BJP candidates.

The incident related to the viral video is said to have happened on July 18 in a place near Ratuachak in Pakuahat of Malda. But it caught public attention only after the video emerged on social media platforms on July 22. The assailants thrashed two women mercilessly and stripped them half-naked in front of a crowd. The attackers were predominantly women.

It is said that they were thrashed by shopkeepers and other women for stealing items from the market. Malda Superintendent of Police, Pradeep Kumar Yadav told reporters that locals suspected the two women have stolen the purses of three women who withdrew money from a bank and attacked the victims on July 18.

However, no complaint about the incident was lodged with the West Bengal police. The two women who were caught red-handed while stealing, left the place after the incident and the local female traders who attacked them also did not lodge any police complaints. The police have taken suo-moto cognizance of the incident on July 22 after the video surfaced on social media platforms.

According to Indian Express, five tribal women had come to market and were allegedly caught stealing. Three of them managed to escape from the spot and two of the women were thrashed and paraded half-naked. Five persons in connection with the Malda viral video incident were detained on July 22.
