Seeman speaks WhatsApp rumours in press conferences!

We can see Seeman, the chief co-ordinator of then Naam Tamilar Party, speaking misinformation that are doing rounds on the social media sites, including WhatsApp and Twitter, at press conferences, thinking that the fake news is true.

1. Bus fare hike:

Speaking at a press meet in Karaikudi on June 11, Seeman was asked by the reporters about the DMK government’s one-year achievement to which he replied that it was a free ride on the local bus for the women.

He also replied, “Free for my wife who is near me, But I have to pay 4 times the fare. Is that okay? Did I ask for free, maintain the buses properly first”.

After the DMK government came to power in Tamil Nadu, it announced free travel for women on local buses. However, the government has not increased bus fares in Tamil Nadu till now.

Last month, rumours were circulating on social media that the Tamil Nadu government was going to raise bus fares which was old news published in 2018. Transport Minister Sivasankar also denied news of a bus fare hike.

2. Money for vote by Yogi Adityanath:

Speaking at a press conference on June 14, Seeman said, “There is a video of Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh sitting where people falling at his feet in a row and buying money for votes from him.”

The video mentioned by Seeman was not taken when Yogi Adityanath was not the Chief Minister. Vinay Kumar, who posted the viral video said to The Quint that the video was taken in April 2012 when Yogi Adityanath was the Member of Parliament for Gorakhpur constituency when he paid Rs.1000-Rs.2000 to the farmers of his constituency as compensation because their crops were burned.

3. Nirav Modi 500 crore:

In the same video above, Seeman said, “Didn’t Nirav Modi say that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) left me to escape only after handing over Rs 500 crore when he was going abroad after printing Rs 11,700 crore?”

It was rumoured that Nirav Modi said in a London court that only 32% of the Rs 13,000 crore was given to him, and the remaining amount had been taken by BJP leaders. Similarly, misinformation was spreading on social media claiming that Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi had given Rs 500 crore to the BJP or Congress party to flee India.

4. DMK MP Senthilkumar:

Speaking to press reporters on May 22, Seeman said, “DMK MP Senthilkumar said that he has never seen Periyar. But when he saw Udayanidhi in a khaki shirt in the movie Nenjuku Needhi, he said that he saw Periyar in him”.

In recent press meets, Seaman was seen quoting fake news and posts circulating on social networking sites, including WhatsApp and Twitter.
