Explanation

The viral video shows the Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sanjay Singh sitting in a car and he is speaking with the police through the window. In October of last year, Singh was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case related to the now-canceled Delhi liquor policy scam. Recently, Singh was granted bail on 2 April. This post is shared with a claim stating “Welcome back, Sanjay Singh. He knows how to deal with Modi’s Police, CBI, ED.”

What’s the truth?

We began our analysis with the viral video’s keyframes, which directed us to the same video that the Aam Aadmi Party-Uttar Pradesh had uploaded to its X page.

This video was captioned as “Tiranga Yatra is illegal, if Tiranga Yatra is not organized in India then where will it be organized?” Interestingly, we can also see that the post was published in October 2021. It is therefore an older video.

Using that as a guide, we continued our search using pertinent keywords and discovered a few news articles dated back to October 2021. As per the ETV Bharat report, “Aam Aadmi Party’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge cum Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who had reached Varanasi to lead the Tiranga Sankalp Yatra, was stopped and detained by the police. During this, MP Sanjay Singh was seen quarreling with the policemen.” Notably, the article also carried the same viral video in it.

When we intensified our search we got another article by Amar Ujala stating that, to lead the Tiranga Yatra from Kachahari to Lahurabir, AAP leader Sanjay Singh traveled to Banaras. The district administration, however, did not approve of this journey. While arguing with the police, “He was repeatedly asking for a copy of the order based on which he was stopped by the police. He said that every party is holding rallies in Varanasi. No one was stopped from coming. Under which law am I being stopped? The police should have nothing to do with where I am going or whether I have come for some work.”

You can read about this same story that was covered by Dainik Bhaskar here.

The details mentioned above provide clarity to the widely shared assertion that the video starring AAP leader Sanjay Singh is outdated, dating back to 2021. This implies no link between this viral video and his recent release from custody.

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the widely circulated video, which purports to show AAP leader Sanjay Singh arguing with police and asserting his expertise in handling the CBI, ED, and Police under Modi, is inaccurate and misleading. The video is actually from the Varanasi, Tiranga Yatra in 2021 when he was prevented from taking part by the police.
