Explanation

Three agricultural bills were randomly passed by the Union BJP government in September 2020 without consulting the Parliament or farmers. As they marched towards Delhi, thousands of farmers expressed their opposition to the laws and support for corporate entities. Later, the Acts were annulled by the Union Government.

At the time, the government pledged to guarantee a minimum support price and to withdraw the legal action it had brought against farmers for taking part in the demonstration. Since their demands are still not being met, the farmers are currently staging a protest and marching back towards Delhi. The government and police have prevented them from moving forward by erecting barbed wire fences and placing tear gas shells in the farmers’ paths, among other measures.

Meanwhile, a 2-minute and 8-second video shows two groups of people involved in some clash. They go on vandalizing some shops and temples. We also notice policemen running behind them trying to take control of the situation. This post is shared with a claim stating, “So-called farmers “Khalistanis” have attacked a Hindu temple and the shops around. Is this a protest or an unnecessary rage against Hindus?.” The user went on to add that, now the Sikhs are following the path of Islamists. What’s the truth?

When we started our analysis using the keyframes of the viral video, it led us to many reports dated back to 2022 can be read here, and here.

According to these articles, an anti-Khalistan demonstration was conducted in Patiala on April 29, 2022, by members of the Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena supporters were attacked by Khalistan supporters when the rally arrived at Kali Temple in Manjeet Nagar, Patiala. During this, swords were waved from both sides, and stones were pelted. Many Sikh organizations and Hindu activists came face to face, due to which the police had to struggle a lot to solve the whole matter.

The reports further added that “The clash took place outside the Kali Mata temple when members of an outfit that calls itself Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray)  began a ‘Khalistan Murdabad March’.”

When we advanced our search, it led us to another YouTube video of Republic World which exactly matched the viral video.

We have also included some comparison images from both clips for the reader’s reference.

All this above information confirms that the incident in the video is true but it’s not related to the ongoing farmer’s protest.

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the viral claim of Khalistans attacking Hindu temples and shops is an old incident from 2022. This took place in Patiala when there were clashes between Shiv Sena and Khalistan supporters outside Kali Mata Temple.

This makes it even clearer that this is unrelated to the current farmer’s protest.
