Several tweets claiming that the American government has admitted that 5G radiation causes Covid-19 are being shared. These tweets quote an article from ‘rumble’ while making the claim. Tweets with such a claim can be seen here, here, here, and here.
The link when opened says “Bombshell new peer-reviewed scientific studies have revealed what many of us knew from the beginning. 5G radiation is not only connected to the Covid-19 pandemic, it actually induces the body to create new viruses and illnesses, including coronaviruses. And before the mainstream media gets hold of this study and convinces the masses that it is unimportant, you should know that these are peer-reviewed scientific studies published on the National Institute of Health website.” An image claiming to be the NIH tweet mentioning “Exposure to 5G radiation can induce COVID-19 in humans” is mentioned on the page.
What is the truth?
When searching for the keyword ‘5G radiation’ on the National Institute of Health Twitter page ‘NIH’ no results were found. And no news on the American government admitting the link between 5G radiation and Covid is also found.
The NIH research paper mentioned in the claim quoted the possibility of 5G radiation causing Covid-19 under the discussion category and mentioned that “none of the observations discussed here prove this linkage. Specifically, the evidence does not confirm causation. Clearly, COVID-19 occurs in regions with little wireless communication. Furthermore, the relative morbidity caused by WCR exposure in COVID-19 is unknown.”
This claim is viral since the beginning of Covid-19 in 2020. Youturn has fact-checked and published an article in September 2020. One of the claims mentioned in the article is about the link between 5G and Covid. The Economic Times published an article in April 2020 saying that the UN ICT agency mentioned the theory of 5G spreading Covid-19 as a hoax.
The World Health Organization Facebook page in April 2020 posted that 5G mobile networks DO NOT spread Covid-19.
The UNICEF published an article in July 2021 with the title ‘5G – the misinformation which is still circulating’. The article mentions that UNICEF’s Young Reporters analysed this conspiracy theory in Montenegro to check if there was any truth in it and that their analysis shows that the fifth generation of mobile internet does not kill the living world or spread coronavirus.
Other articles from Reuters and Boston University also reported that the 5G does not cause Covid-19 and that the claim is a rumour.
Conclusion
It is found from our search that 5G mobile networks does not cause Covid-19 and the claim is old fake news that has been revived recently.
