Israel PM’s spokesperson falsely claims people of Gaza are faking injuries and death.

A Lebanese short film depicting the plight of people in Gaza is used to create a false narrative.

Claim

The Palestinians are fooling the international media and public opinion. DON’T FALL FOR IT. See for yourselves how they fake injuries and evacuate “injured” civilians, all in front of the cameras. Pallywood gets busted again.

Explanation

On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas led surprise attacks against Israel from the Gaza Strip resulting in hundreds of civilians dead. In response, Israel’s cabinet formally declared war on Hamas and started air strikes on Gaza which has resulted in deaths of thousands of Gazans/Palestinians. Since the violence began, the internet has been flooded with various unrelated and old videos linking it to the recent middle eastern conflict.

Using a 47-second video, several claims are made that the Palestinians are staging and faking their injuries, death and destruction as the events in the video appears choreographed with a camera crew filming it. Israel Prime Minister’s official spokesperson Ofir Gendelman shared this post on his X account which received a whopping 17.6M views while writing this article.

Another pro-Israeli Influencer SissiEmperatriz also shared the same video with a similar claim. A term ‘Pallywood’ has been coined to denote such alleged staged videos made by Palestinians, inspired by the word ‘Hollywood’. Similar claims can be seen here and here.

What’s the truth?

When we analyzed the keyframes of the viral video, we found out that the video is from a short film titled ‘The Reality’ directed by Mahmoud Ramzi. In the captions, he had expressed his anguish regarding the ongoing series of violence in Gaza and the sufferings of the Palestinians.

The child in the video appears to be an actor who also has uploaded the video on her joint instagramaccount with Actor Razan, also in the short film. Going through her profile, we were able to find some photographs taken during the shoot as well.
