Explanation

In the viral tweet shared by the user namely, ‘Lokesh Saini’ he claimed that nowadays Kohli is regularly rested so that Sachin’s record cannot be beaten. He also added that it was said by the Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist.

Interestingly this same tweet was also shared by many other social media users with different cricketers’ names such as MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Ab de Villiers in the place of Adam Gilchrist. The similar kind of posts with name changes can be seen here, here, and here.Come let’s check how much truth this claim holds.

What’s the truth?

Virat Kohli scored his 47th century in the One-Day Internationals against Pakistan in the Asia Cup  which was held recently. Kohli is now just two short of trying Sachin Tendulkar for the most ODI centuries. So, when we started our research using relevant keywords it led us to the X account of the cricketer Adam Gilchrist where he had clarified and addressed the rumours saying that he has never said such statement replying to the particular tweet shared in his page on 20 September 2023.

Likewise, we also got another article from the website ‘Wisden’ titled as “‘Never said this’ – Adam Gilchrist calls out fake Kohli-Tendulkar quote on social media.”

Moreover, when searched further we found an article published by “Cricket Times.com” where the same viral tweet was posted with the response from the Australian cricketer. According to the article, “Gilchrist, who himself was a prolific opening batter during his career, has put these speculations to rest. In a recent Twitter post, he clarified that such notions are merely conjecture and that there’s no concrete evidence to support the claim that the BCCI is deliberately keeping Kohli from reaching the milestone.”

This clearly proves that the above statements claimed to be said by the Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist about Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is fake.

Conclusion:

Therefore, we conclude with all the available evidence that the social media claims circulated with different names of cricketers such as Adam Gilchrist, Ab de Villiers, Sachin Tendulkar, and MS Dhoni about Virat Kohli are fake and spreaded with false narratives.
