A picture is doing rounds on social media claiming that the priest appointed under any caste people can become a priest scheme is wearing sacred thread on the right side which should be done only for the unpleasant events along with a question why should other caste people wear a sacred thread. This picture was commented on under our social media posts and we were asked to fact-check it.

What is the Truth?

This viral picture is commented as a selfie and hence is looking like a mirror image. Few have replied to the comment that if that is the case then the other person seems to wear the thread on the wrong side.

When the viral image is mirrored and checked, the sacred thread seems to be on the correct side. The other person is wearing ‘mala beads’ which was misunderstood as sacred thread.

Additionally, a woman standing behind the priests seems to wear a saree which is also on the other side which in turn proves that the image is a selfie.

No information is sought with the reverse image search. However, we landed in Puthiya Thalaimurai news while checking for the videos captured during the event of presenting appointment orders to 58 people under the scheme any caste people can become priests.

2:54th minute of the Puthiya Thalaimurai video shows two people who are seen in the viral picture. Their dress, malas, vibuthi and rudhratchas reconfirmed that they are the ones in the viral picture.

Both are not wearing the sacred thread on their right side in the video. 58 people who got the appointment order under the mentioned scheme also had people from the Brahmin community. Questions on why should other caste people wear a sacred thread is raised without knowing the details

Conclusion

The viral picture claiming that the newly appointed priest under the said scheme is wearing the sacred thread on the wrong side is untrue. The picture is a selfie and hence is reflecting the mirror image. The mirror image of the viral picture and the news video proves us that the priest is wearing the sacred thread as it should be.
