Explanation
In the 17-second viral video shared by the user, ‘Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Sevadal’, we can hear our Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing a crowd in the Raigarh, Chhattisgarh rally.
The user claimed in the post that, for once the PM had told the biggest truth that Chattisgarh has suffered a lot of loss due to the BJP government. This same post was also shared by another user with a similar caption which can be seen here. Come, let’s check the authenticity of this viral claim.
What’s the truth?
When we started our research using the keyframes of the viral video it led us to the original version uploaded by Narendra Modi’s official YouTube channel on 14 September 2023. The speech was live-streamed here, and the viral portion can be heard around the 13:20 timeline. The video was titled “Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses a public meeting at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.”
In the video we can hear PM’s speech at the timeline 13:20 saying, “the biggest loss becaue of having a BJP government in Chhattisgarh” (Chhattisgarh mai BJP ka hone ka sabse bada nuksan). Then we can see that he waits and pauses for a moment before continuing his next sentence in the original video. It’s this space that is cropped and circulated with false narratives.
He then continued saying, “Since the BJP government has gone, since these people (Here he mentions the Congress government) have sat, my Chhattisgarh’s brothers and sisters have had to suffer, the youth have had to suffer” (Jabse BJP sarkar gayi, jabse ye log baite hai, sabse bada nuksan mera Chhattisgarh ka bhaiyo aur behno ko uthana pad raha hai, mera nowjawan ko uthana pad raha hai)
While watching the full speech of the rally conducted in Raigarh, we found that after that minor slip-up, Modi said that the Congress government was responsible for the suffering of the people in Chattisgarh after the change of the government.
This proves that the video is cropped and edited during the PM’s pause and then widely spread on social media with false claims.
Conclusion:
Therefore, we conclude through our investigation that the viral clip is a cropped and edited version of his minor slip-up and pause moment during his speech. The two statements, “Since BJP government has gone and these people have sat (Congress government)” have been edited to make the false accusation that he criticized the former BJP government itself.
