In this instance, a cartoon image is going viral online. This image shows a cow munching a leaf and subsequently passing manure. Congress’s hand sign drawings are seen in the cow’s tummy. Concurrently, milk is gathered in a separate tub labeled “Gandhi family,” and excrement is gathered where the tub name says “for Indian people.”

This post is shared with an infographic claim stating, “American cartoonist Ben Garrison’s depiction of the state of India. The best way to show how Congress ruled India.” The user has shared this image stating “Nehru to Rahul Rule couldn’t have been depicted better.” Come, let’s check the authenticity of this image.

The viral image purports to criticise the Congress rule. In a similar vein, in another image, the name of the BJP is used instead of the Congress symbol and is likewise shared on social media.

What’s the truth?

We wrote about this identical assertion in a Tamil language piece back in 2019, or so. The article is available for reading here.

However, since Ben Garrison made this statement on his Twitter profile, it’s important to remember that not all of the cartoons going around bearing his name were created by him.

In 2017, he posted on his Twitter page, “I have not drawn any cartoons on Indian politics – there are some cartoons with my sig going around- Not mine.”

On September 29, 2015, Amal Medhi shared a cartoon image on Facebook. This cartoon criticises ‘Make in India’ initiative. The same cow theme was edited to make the viral cartoons criticising Congress and BJP. Rumors are circulating that Ben Garrison created the manipulated cartoon. But those are bogus and not done by the American cartoonist.

Earlier, another cartoon with the face of Prime Minister Modi was shared in the name of Ben Garrison. However, this image also is not real, but fake.

All the above information makes it clear that the Cartoons spread about Indian politics in the name of Ben Garrison are fake!

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the viral image showing a cow with the Congress symbol is a digitally created fake. This same image was previously circulated with the BJP’s lotus symbol.
