What’s the truth?
When we started our research on the internet about media reports stating that former cricketer Heath Streak had died of cancer turned out to be false.
Reportedly Olonga himself had tweeted on August 22 that Streak had passed away. “Sad news coming through that Heath Streak has crossed to the other side. RIP legend. The greatest all-rounder we produced. It was a pleasure playing with you. See you on the other side when my bowling spell comes to an end,” he had said. The tweet, however, now stands deleted.
Despite realising his mistake, Henry Olonga, the former fast bowler, took to social media again today and clarified that Heath Streak is very much alive along with their conversation screenshot from WhatsApp. While sharing it, Olonga wrote, “I can confirm that rumours of the demise of Heath Streak have been greatly exaggerated. I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive folks”.
In this regard, the “Sports and Recreation Commission” of Zimbabwe has issued a report today (August 23). It is also mentioned that Heath Streak is healthy and false information is being spread on social media.
According to the news published on the ‘Mid day’ website, “This is a complete rumor and lie. I am alive. I am very upset to learn that something as big as someone apparently passing can be spread unverified especially in our day and age of social media”. “I believe the source should apologize. I am hurt by this news,” Streak said in a WhatsApp message.
Thus, it is clearly proved that the news reported in the media about the death of former cricketer Heath Streak is not true.
