Explanation

In the above 2-minute 53-second viral clip we were able to see that Home Minister Amit Shah is addressing the public during his recent election campaign. This video is shared with some spoof and comical clips presented by a host in between the speeches of Shah. Congress claims that, Amit Shah has said that IIT, IIM, IIM all are built by BJP first in the country. The post is widely spread by most of the opposition party in their official X handles with the claims stating that “BJP has broken all the records of lying.” Similar posts can be here and here. Come, let’s check the authenticity of this viral claim.

What’s the truth?

When we started our research analyzing the keyframes of the viral video, it led us to the original video uploaded by Home Minister Amit Shah’s YouTube channel. This video was a lengthier version of 23 minutes titled HM Shri Amit Shah addresses ‘Parivartan Sankalp Mahasabha’ in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh(16 Oct 2023)” uploaded on 16 October 2023. The video is from his recent election campaign in the state of Chhattisgarh as the state is getting ready for its upcoming Legislative Assembly election which is scheduled this November 2023.

When we listened this whole video, we found the viral portion coming around the timeline of 11 minutes and 2 seconds. For a clear understanding, we heard a few minutes earlier of the viral claim and have loosely translated the Hindi version of the speech as follows. Around the timestamp of 10 minutes 40 seconds, we can hear Home Minister Amit Shah saying, “Congress left Chhattisgarh in a sick state  & then we came and changed it to an education hub, power hub, cement hub and also a big healthcare center. We worked in making NIT, IIT, IIIT, IIM, AIIMS, and other livelihood colleges first in the state,”

This clearly proves that Amit Shah was speaking about building these institutions in the state of Chhattisgarh.

The claims which state that the BJP built all these educational institutions first in the whole country are completely misleading and taken out of context from his speech circulated by the Congress.

The Educational institutions and their establishments:

Also coming to all the educational institutions he mentioned in his speech the IIT Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, was started in 2016. This was inaugurated by Chief Minister and BJP leader Raman Singh.

The IIM Raipur also states that the institute was established in 2010, while Raman Singh was ruling the state.

The Institute of IIIT Naya Raipur was formed as a joint effort of NTPC and the state government as per the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) University Act, 2013. The Raman Singh government brought the Act into implementation on 28 January 2014.

According to the article of ‘Times of India’ AIIMS Raipur began its journey in 2012 under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna. He also mentioned the livelihood colleges during his speech along with the above institutions. Livelihood colleges are nothing but skill development centers that were introduced by the BJP government in all districts of Chhattisgarh during their regime.

But the only institute namely NIT was not found out during the BJP government rather it was founded by the first President Rajendra Prasad in 1956 and later inaugurated by the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1963.

Conclusion:

Therefore, we conclude with the available evidence that, the speech of Home Minister Amit Shah was taken out of context and misled by the opposition parties. The claim stating BJP built the above educational institutions all over the country is false and misleading.

In reality, Shah was addressing the people of Chhattisgarh and speaking about the state’s development and not about our country India.
