In 2005, Raju Pal, BSP MLA was allegedly murdered in broad daylight by Atiq’s gang. And Umesh Pal, a BJP leader was the prime witness in the Raju Pal murder case. Umesh Pal was killed in February 2023 and Police booked Atiq Ahmed, his son Asad Ahmed and his aid Ghulam, his brother Asharaf among others. Asad Ahmed and Ghulam were shot dead in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh on 13, April.

On April 15, Gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Asharaf were shot dead in front of the media when they were in police custody. Three people were involved in the incident by posing as journalists. The incident was captured on camera. This video is circulated on social media platforms and is also seen on multiple news reports. It is viral that the assailants chanted the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan after killing Atiq and Asharaf. But it is also claimed by multiple Right Wing supporters that the assailants did not chant the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan. Some of the posts claiming that no Jai Shri Ram slogans were raised can be seen here, here and here.

Many people are circulating fake videos claiming that the three accused in the Atiq Ahmed murder case are chanting Jai Shri Ram. No slogans were raised.

What is the truth?

When searching with relevant keywords we found that the assailants did chant the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan after murdering Atiq and Asharaf while being caught by the police.

The Wire article reported that in some video clips being shared widely across social media, slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” can be heard over visuals as two people are seen being apprehended by the police.

The news video of Hindustan Times on its Youtube channel highlighted that the killers were chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in its title. The video is titled “Atiq Ahmed’s killers caught chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on cam after murder; Posed as media”. It is also mentioned in the news that the attackers were heard chanting the slogan immediately after killing Atiq.

Times Now tweeted that Atiq Ahmad’s Killers were caught on camera shooting and chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The Times Now news article is found carrying a video of the incident in which the killers can be heard raising the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan after killing them.

Another video of the incident is found in the Times of India article. This video shows the killers shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ after the murder and when they are being caught by the police.

The ABP Live YouTube channel uploaded a video of the assailants shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. It can also be seen that they are being caught by the police. They can also be heard shouting ‘Surrender Surrender’ with their hands in the air.

It is claimed that the assailants did not chant the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan in the video released by ANI and that the audio is appended to the video. But the longer version of the video shows them chanting the slogans after they kill them.

Moreover, in an interview to NewsTak, one of the eye witnesses can be heard saying that the assailants were chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans while shooting.

Conclusion

It is found that the claim that Atiq’s assailants did not raise ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans after killing them is false. They indeed chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ after killing Atiq and Asharaf.
