A post with an image of BBC’s famous Journalist Mark Tully claiming that he said, “If BJP remains, then one day there will be a tricolour on the moon. But if Congress comes somewhere, there will be a moon on the flag, just remember this always!”, is viral. The BJP supporter Kalyan has posted this claim on his Twitter page.

What is the Truth?

85-year-old William Mark Tully is the former Bureau Chief of BBC and he held the position for 20 years. This is not the first time to spread a rumour in the name of Mark Tully. It was claimed that the famous Journalist has appreciated Narendra Modi’s BJP government earlier.

We searched for the claim, “If BJP remains, then one day there will be a tricolour on the moon. But if Congress comes somewhere, there will be a moon on the flag, just remember this always! Mark Tully said”. But found no such news or official announcement regarding this.

Rather, the 7th February 2021 dated East Coast Daily article has published this claimed content at the beginning of another fake claim which spreads in the national level that says that Mark Tully has appreciated Modi government.

It was viral that Mark Tully wrote about the Modi government with the title ‘Modi destroying termite ridden banyan tree’ in his book. 2019 May dated Alt News article has published an article mentioning that somebody’s view is spread in the name of Mark Tully. But, it is ridiculous to spread the same fake news by mentioning the same article.

It is also found that there are a few tweets that shared the same content but without mentioning the name of Mark Tully. Nowadays, it has become common to share somebody’s thoughts with the name of famous personalities.

Mark Tully has denied rumours like he appreciated the Modi government or he complaints about the Congress party earlier.

In 2018, Mark Tully has denied the claim, “Mark Tully said, Rahul Gandhi will never ever be the PM, or even be in a position to be kingmaker. Not ever”. A news article dated 2013 says that Mark Tully denies writing hate contents against Sonia Gandhi.

Conclusion
