For the past year, people have been sharing this news card on social networking sites, including Twitter. They are going viral because it is election time now. Therefore, we explored the authenticity of this.
Fact Check:
On the news card with the News7 channel logo, you can see the words “BJP thieves caught by the police” written closely. While searching for the bike thieves caught in Chennai, News 7 Tamil’s real news card was found on October 3, 2020, saying, “3 youths arrested in Nungambakkam for stealing 10 two-wheelers in various parts of Chennai.”
News7 Tamil did not mention that the bike thieves were from the BJP. While searching for any other news related to the incident, the same photo of the two-wheelers featured on the news card, along with a photo of the detainees, was found in the Puthiyathalaimurai news item released on October 4, 2020.
“Police caught and interrogated the person who came in the vehicle with the bullet on suspicion while conducting a vehicle search. The investigation revealed that he was Safi (27) from Thanjavur and that the vehicle he was driving was a stolen bullet. His accomplices Cibi (23) from Kerala and Ameerjan (36) from Virudhunagar were arrested by the police with Safiq, ”the report said.
