Along with this information, pictures of vehicles including trains going on the underwater tunnel and pictures of Prime Minister Modi on the bridge are being shared.

What is the truth?

When the first image of the underwater railroad and road is reverse searched, we found that it was published on the WorldHighways website in 2017 as a sample image of the Fehmarn Belt tunnel project to be set up in Europe. The 18 km tunnel is planned to be built under the sea on a project connecting the German island of Fehmern and the island of Lolland in Denmark.

A reverse image search of the next tunnel image reveals that the Norwegian government is planning to build an underwater tunnel which was mentioned in 2016.

When doing a reverse image search of the image of PM Modi on the bridge, a photo taken on the longest Bhupen Hazarika bridge in India, which started construction in 2011 and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in Assam in 2017 was found.

According to an article published on a website on May 18, 2022, the Government of India plans to build India’s first underwater road and rail tunnel at the Brahmaputra in Assam. It has been said that the project to construct a 9 km long tunnel is estimated at approximately 7000 crore rupees.

Conclusion

In our search, the information and photos that spread as a 14 km long tunnel built under the Brahmaputra river were incorrect. The Government of India is only planning to set up India’s first underwater road and rail tunnel project in the state of Assam.

Also, the viral photos are sample pictures published in connection with the underwater tunnel being set up in Europe and Norway. The photo of Prime Minister Modi on the bridge was taken during the opening of India’s largest bridge in Assam in 2017.
