In Raipur, Chhattisgarh, #India, over 50 Muslim shops were bulldozed near Salem School at Motibagh Chowk. The Municipal Corporation, along with police, used bulldozers to remove these shops, including fast food, chicken, and mutton shops.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the majority vote by securing 54 seats in Chhattisgarh constituent assembly elections and registered the biggest election win in the state.
Meanwhile, a viral video purporting a bulldozer destroying all the shops in the row is shared on social media. It is claimed that over 50 Muslim shops were bulldozed near Salem School, Raipur by the Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation and Police after the BJP came to power in the state.
What is the truth?
We ran a keyword search and we found the original incident covered by IBC 24 posted on 5, November 2023. In this report, we can see a reporter explaining the whole incident that occurred. The reporter says the government officials came to remove illegal shops operating outside the Salem School Raipur, Chhattisgarh after several complaints were made by School female students and the School authorities.
These shops were illegally built on footpaths and outside the school wall due to which people are facing huge traffic jams every day. Municipal corporations also gave two months to relocate their shops but they did not relocate the shops.
IBC 24 reporter says all illegal shop owners are asking for another alternate place to shift and run their shops to the government before it’s bulldozed because the government didn’t give any place for them to relocate.
Free Press Journal also reported the incident. In these reports, the reporter nowhere said that Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation is bulldozing all the shops because they are Muslims. It was shared in a false narrative by social media users.
Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation bulldozed illegal shops not just the Muslim-owned shops. This video has no communal angle; it was shared with misleading information.
