A 7-second viral video is shared by an account known for sharing misinformation ‘Megh Updates’ on X handle at multiple instances earlier. In the viral video, we can hear Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar saying, ‘I don’t believe India… We will have India form the government”. 

The viral video was shared by the X accounts known for sharing misinformation, such as The Jaipur Dialogues and Panchjanya with a claim that he accepted his party’s defeat.

It was also widely shared by Bharatiya Janata Party representatives and supporters, as seen here, here, here, and here

What’s the truth? 

We ran the reverse search image using the keyframes of the viral video, and taking clues from the ANI logo, we found the tweet by ANI posted on June 3, 2024. The caption states that “Karnataka Dy CM DK Shivakumar says, “India (alliance) will form the government.”

ANI tweeted a short video of 14 seconds where we can hear a reporter asking Karnataka Congress DK Shivakumar about the poll prediction for which he said all seven seats would win. Then again, another reporter asked the question, ‘What is your reaction to the exit poll results’? DK Shivakumar replied, I don’t believe it, and then he stated that the India alliance would form the government

This particular portion is trimmed from the original video and is being shared with false narratives that DK Shivakumar accepted defeat before election results. In actuality, he replied to the two questions with a one-line answer that he doesn’t believe in the exit poll and that the India alliance will form the government. The clipped video of his statement is falsely shared. The statement of DK Shivakumar on exit poll 2024 news was also reported by Times Now.


A portion is trimmed from the original video of the DK Shivakumar statement, and it is being shared with false narratives. He actually answered, “I don’t believe it”, to a question about exit polls by a reporter and continued saying, “INDIA alliance will form the government”. The video is clipped in a way that both of these statements were taken together to share false narratives.
