Explanation

An image of a massive crowd is being shared on social media with a claim that it is from Bharat Jodo Yatra, Bellary. Similar claims can be seen here, here, here and here.

What is the truth?

Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi, Congress reached Bellary on 14, October 2022. The schedule for 15, October is posted by ‘Bharat Jodo’ Yatra’s Twitter page and is all about Bellary in the schedule. But this viral image was not found in the official gallery.

When the viral image is reverse-searched, several websites have posted this image but the oldest among the lot that we could find is an article published in 2010 in a Slovakian website ‘milost’. The introductory part translates as, “a few weeks ago, the year 2009 ended – the year in which the world-famous evangelist Reinhard Bonnke celebrated 50 years of his service to the Lord. His ministry left an indelible impact, especially in Africa, which is Bonnke’s main mission field. During the last 22 years (1987-2009), Bonnke’s organization Christ for All Nations (CfaN) organized a number of evangelistic campaigns, visited by more than 120 million people, during which 62 million decisions for Christ were registered.”

An image posted on 17, April 2020 on Reinhard Bonnke’s official Facebook page was also found during the reverse search. It mentioned that the picture was taken in Ogbomosho, Nigeria in 2002. This page has posted the picture with better clarity.

Reinhard Bonnke was a German Evangelist known for his gospel missions throughout Africa. He was born in 1940 and died in 2019. He was the founder of ‘Christ for all Nations’. The viral image is also found on this website.

Conclusion

An image taken from Reinhard Bonnke’s gospel in Nigeria more than a decade back is known to be spread as a picture from Bharat Jodo Yatra in Bellary.
