There will be seven phases of India’s general elections, which are scheduled for April 19, 2024, to June 1, 2024. On June 4, 2024, the vote count results will be released to the public. Officially, the Lok Sabha election’s first phase is already over.

In this case, we see a 10-second clip of actor Allu Arjun and his spouse watching the public while waving their hands. They appear to be standing with a few others in a moving, open car that the general public can view from the sides of the road. An infographic titled “Jay Congress Vijay Congress” is included in the video. This post is shared with a claim stating, “Allu Arjun the biggest superstar of India is campaigning for the Congress party” along with a hashtag election 2024. You can view a similar claim here.

What’s the truth?

Using just Google’s keywords and a basic reverse image search, we began our investigation. This took us to several 2022-dated pictures and articles.

One such article was posted on August 22, 2022, by India TV News and is titled “Allu Arjun Makes Grand Entry at India Day Parade in New York; Does Pushpa’s Iconic Step with Mayor.” A ton of videos and pictures from the New York event are also included in this article. The actor and his partner are pictured standing in an open automobile, both sporting similar viral outfits.

According to the article, “Allu Arjun was joined by his wife Sneha Reddy as he represented India at the biggest annual Indian Day Parade in New York, where he got conferred with the coveted title of Grand Marshall.”

The title “Grand Marshall” is slung around Allu Arjun’s attire in the viral video of him driving an open car. We have also attached the viral image with markings below for reader’s reference.

We looked further and discovered a longer, similar video clip on the actor’s YouTube page. The video is captioned “Icon Star Allu Arjun as Grand Marshal @ 40th India Day Parade in New York | Highlights | #IndiaAt75.”

All of these facts ascertain that the widely shared video is from the New York City India Day parade happened in 2022 and is old.

We therefore conclude that the widely shared film, which purports to show actor Allu Arjun advocating for Congress, is untrue and deceptive. The video is actually from 2022, and it has nothing to do with the current Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
