Did ex-Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar shed tears while resigning? No, it’s an old video!

Manohar Lal Khattar’s tears will weigh heavily, Modi ji! First made Shivraj Singh Chouhan cry and now Khattar Kaka and Anil Bij too!

Manohar Lal Khattar resigned as an MLA from the Karnal assembly constituency on Wednesday, one day after he resigned as the chief minister of Haryana. Khattar has been Karnal’s representative since 2014.

Meanwhile, a 22-second video is shared on social media where we see Manohar Lal Khattar crying. This post is circulated with a claim stating, “Manohar Lal Khattar’s tears will weigh heavily, Modi ji! First made Shivraj Singh Chouhan cry and now Khattar Kaka and Anil Bij too!” You can view related claim posts here and here.

What’s the truth?

We started our analysis with all the keyframes of the viral video which led us to a YouTube video by Mojo Story. This video is a bit lengthy and was published on March 10, 2021. The video was titled “CM Khattar Cries |Says Bhupinder Hooda shouldn’t have asked women MLAs to pull the tractor he was on.”

When we looked into the description box, it read “Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar got emotional over the visuals of Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda riding a tractor during a protest and women legislators of the party pulling it with ropes. “This treatment to women MLAs was worse than bonded labor,” he said in the state Assembly on Tuesday. “If they had to protest, women members should have been sitting on the tractor and their male counterparts should have pulled it. I could not sleep all night. You should be ashamed of yourself,” said Khattar to Congress members sitting in the House.”

As we dug deeper into the matter, we discovered that Navbharat Times had published an article about the same incident in its March 10, 2021 issue, which included the same widely circulated screen grabs.

The details mentioned above make it clear why he was crying. The video purports that he became upset upon seeing Congressman Bhupinder Singh Hooda ride a tractor pulled by women using ropes. This indicates that he sobbed while discussing how Congress had treated the female protestors.

In conclusion, the widely circulated rumor that former chief minister Manohar sobbed during his resignation is misleading. Actually, the widely shared video is from 2021 and has nothing to do with his recent resignation.
