What is the truth?

When searching with relevant keywords, we found that the viral video is old and is of a fire incident in a mobile tower in India and not of people burning 5G towers as claimed.

The viral video is found uploaded on 27, January 2018 on ‘Hindrpress Tv’ Youtube channel with the title in Hindi translated as “Fire broke out in the mobile tower, there was a stir”.

The glimpses of the viral video are seen on 20, January 2018 dated video on ‘India TV’ Youtube channel with the title “Goa: Mobile tower catches fire in Ribandar, Panjim”.

The viral video is also found posted on 27, January 2018 on the ‘Grameen Drshtikon GD’ Facebook page captioned as “A fire broke out in the mobile tower located in Barara. The fire took a huge form in no time. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Due to the collapse of the tower, there is an atmosphere of panic among the people”.

The Economic Times article dated 23, February 2018 reports that Bharti Airtel and Chinese telecom gear maker Huawei have successfully conducted India’s first 5G network trial under a test setup at the former’s network experience centre in Manesar, Gurgaon.

We could not ascertain the whereabouts of the viral video but the video is doing the rounds on the internet since January 2018 and India’s first 5G network trial under a test setup was conducted in February 2018. This confirms that the claim is false.

It is found that an old video of fire in the mobile tower is falsely claimed as a 5G tower is being burned in India by the people.
