See the pattern of PM Modi’s throw.

  • Told in the Lok Sabha yesterday that the beneficiaries of the Nal Jal Yojana are ‘8 crore’.

Explanation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spoke in both houses of Parliament. There were many pressures for the Prime Minister to address various topics such as the Hindenburg Research report on the Adani Group and the BBC documentary about him which portrayed him as an authoritarian among many other accusations. Although the PM did not address these issues much, he delivered a long speech in both houses of Parliament.

The Congress had posted a tweet along with a video in which the Congress is alleging that the PM cited different number of connections provided to houses in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Similar posts can be seen here, here and here.

What’s the truth?

We analyzed the video of the Prime Minister’s speech in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha which are available in Sansad TV. In the Lok Sabha, Narendra Modi said “It has been 75 years since Independence. Today we have given 8 crore connections in Nal Se Jal scheme. How will the mothers/women accept your lies?”

This can be seen from the 58th minute of the video from Lok Sabha where he said “Azaadhi ka pachhathar saal beeth gayi, aat karor parivaaronko aaj nal se jal mila hai. Wo mathaye thumare jut ko kaise swikar karenge?”

Whereas, in the Rajya Sabha, Modi said “From the time of Independence, before we formed our government, there were only 3 crore tap water connections to homes directly. Mr.Speaker, after the last 3-4 years, now there are 11 crore houses with tap water connections”

From the 14th minute of his speech in Rajya Sabha, he said “Azaadi ke pahle se ab tak, hum sarkar me aane tab tak, sirf theen karor gharo tak nal se jal milta tha. Aadarniy sabhapatiji, pichle theen char saal me aaj gyara karor gharanko nal se jal mil raha hey”

So, in essence, the Prime Minister had said that there have been 8 crore connections given by the BJP Government. With the 3 crore connections given before the Modi Government in 2014, there are 11 crore connections in total. This has been edited to mislead that Modi said different number of tap water connections provided by his government in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Conclusion

In our search, we find that the claims made by Congress and others is misleading. The video is edited side by side without context to make it appear that Narendra Modi said different number of water connections in both houses of Parliament.
