On October 7, 2023, hundreds of civilians were killed in surprise strikes against Israel by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas from the Gaza Strip. In retaliation, the Israeli cabinet formally declared war on Hamas and launched airstrikes on Gaza, killing thousands of Palestinians and Gaza residents. Ever since the violence started, several old and irrelevant footage have been posted online, connecting it to the latest crisis in the Middle East.

In this case, a 44-second video shows a man lying on the ground. We can also see that he is covered in a sleeping bag with red color stains all over his face and body. Interestingly, we see a lady painting his chest with a brush. Then we see the man covered in a red color substance sitting and smoking a cigar from his sleeping bag. The video has an infographic written as ‘Makeup Gaza style’ on it. This post is shared with a claim stating, “Watch another video of the Genocide going on in Southern Gaza.” Some users went on to add that, “Palestinian actors are preparing. Do not rule out that we will soon witness disturbing images of Rafah on all televisions. Palliwood in action.” You can view a similar claim post here.

What’s the truth?

We started our analysis and found matching visuals on a YouTube channel named Arabic 2 titled “Bleeding Dirt Series the second episode.” The video was premiered on March 13, 2024.

When we looked into the description box of the video it read “The Zionist army entered the village to arrest Bilal and stormed his mother’s house and threatened her, while Bilal fled to meet Waddah and Munther at the cemetery as they had previously agreed, but after information, the army went to the area of the cemeteries and killed Bilal, Wadah and Munther. After the assassination, the Zionist officer visited Bilal’s mother to inform her of the news of her son’s assassination and allow Only 5 people from the town to attend the burial of those who were martyred.”

Also, the video went on to add the people who acted and directed the film as “Starring: Hussein Nakhla, Munira Zuraiqi, Osama Malhas, Amjad Ghanem, Saeed Saada, Mays Abu Sabaa, Najah Abu Al-Haijha. Story, screenplay, and writing: Osama Malha”

While looking through the whole video we saw that around the timeline of 19:30 shows the same cemetery scene from the viral clip. Here we also see the person with blood stains getting shot in the YouTube video. Then when we watched further we saw the man with similar blood stains at the timestamp of 22:29 lying in the stretcher with the body bag.

We have also attached a comparison image of the viral clip and the original YouTube episode screenshot for the reader’s reference below.

This information makes it clear that the viral video is not of people in Gaza pretending to be injured as the claim indicates, but rather a behind-the-scenes look from an episode of a television show.

Thus we conclude that the viral claim stating the Genocide going on in Southern Gaza and Palestinian acts and fake injuries is false. In reality, the video clip shows behind the scenes from the second episode of the Bleeding Dirt series.
