Explanation

According to some media sources, such as Puthiya Thalaimurai and News 18 Tamil Nadu, the Union Government has been advised by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to impose fees on those who use several phone numbers and on those who have been using the same number for an extended period. What’s the truth?

We began our investigation by searching Google for pertinent keywords, such as “Did TRAI announce any increase in charges for the two SIM users and user who has been a customer for a long time?”

This directed us to a tweet by the TRAI dated June 14, 2024. The post read “The speculation that TRAI intends to impose charges on customers for holding multiple SIMs/ numbering resources is unequivocally false. Such claims are unfounded and serve only to mislead the public.”

This means the circulating news is not true.

Using this as a clue, we conducted additional research and discovered that TRAI’s official website had posted a press release.

According to the statement a report on “Revision of National Numbering Plan’ was published on the website. Moreover, it went on to add that, “Written comments on the Revision of National Numbering Plan are invited from the stakeholders by 04th July 2024 and counter comments by 18th July 2024.”

All the above information confirms that media, which disseminated such deceptive reports, misinterpreted this news.

From these, it is clear that the news published by the media is not true.

Conclusion:

The claim that TRAI recommends charging someone for using many phone numbers and staying on the same number for an extended period is false.
