This 10-second viral video shared by the user namely, “Ravisutanjani” in his X account received 2.4M views, 21.6K likes and more than 3600 reposts. In this video, we were able to see a girl’s hand with a Mehandi design similar to the UPI QR codes that we use for digital payment nowadays. We also notice someone is taking their mobile and trying to scan the henna art as we do with the QR codes during any digital payment procedure. This clip is viral with the claim that “this is the peak digital India moment” by multiple users which can be viewed here, here and here. Come, let’s check the veracity of this claim.

What’s the truth?

When we started our research by examining the keyframes of the viral video through a Google reverse image search, we found the Instagram page of the person who recorded the video.

A perusal of the Instagram page confirmed that the video was uploaded on August 27 by a woman namely, yash_mehndi from Delhi. The artist’s bio tells that she is a bridal mehndi artist.

The viral video is captioned, “I have incorporated the money transaction scenes in this video into my mehndi video by screen recording. This mehndi QR code cannot be used for payment. It was recorded just for fun.” It was clearly mentioned that mehndi QR code cannot be used for payment in reality.

Conclusion:

In our research, we found out that the video circulating as UPI transaction with QR code in a Mehndi art is not genuine but an edited video.
