An elderly Muslim man was paraded and dragged through Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, India.The victim’s face was darkened with ink & a garland of shoes was tied around his neck.He was also forced to lick his own spit.Another video of him doing sit-ups was also made.
A viral video shared on X handle showed a group of people parading an elderly man garlanded with shoes. The victim’s face was blackened with ink and he was forced to lick saliva, and at the end of the video, we can also see the man doing sit-ups. It is claimed that the Muslim man was made to go through all this in Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh without mentioning the reason behind the incident.

What is the truth?
We ran a keyword search and found an article in the Free Press Journal dated 9, December 2023 titled “Elderly man tied, paraded with blackened face, forced to wear shoe garland & lick saliva in Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh”.
According to the report, the 76-year-old man was identified as Mohabbat Ali. The elderly man used to call up a girl from a nearby village and talk to her inappropriately and he also distributed her mobile number to other women. He was punished for such behaviour by the people at the Tihra village, Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The elderly man approached the police station and registered an FIR.

Siddharthnagar Police arrested the four accused Zafar, Aman Pandey, Akhilesh Sahni, and Ghanshyam Tiwari on 8, December 2023 for blackening the victim’s face and garlanding him with shoes.
He was not punished because of his religion but for his behaviour by the same community people. The accused were also arrested. The viral video is being given a false communal angle by highlighting the religious identity of the elderly. The same incident was reported by many media outlets such as TOI, India Today, NDTV and Hindustan
