Explanation

In the above viral tweet shared by a verified user ‘Narendra Modi Fan’ with a watermark of ‘Real Video’ we were able to see the BJP MLA and former cricketer showing his middle finger towards the crowd. We can hear the crowd chanting “Bharat Tere Tukde Honge, Inshallah Inshallah” (God willing, India will be broken into pieces). Many users shared this same video with similar claims which can be seen here, here, and here. Interestingly, the same viral clip has a different audio with another anti-India slogan posted by different users which can be seen here and here.

Some users have posted the same clip with the chant of cricketer Virat Kohli’s name in the background and the former cricketer Gautam Gambir showing his middle finger for this can also be seen here, here, and here.

So, its totally confusing since there are three versions of audio in the above viral clip. Come, let’s check the authenticity of this shared viral clip.

What’s the truth?

When we staretd our research we got the interview of the former cricketer Gautam Gambir regarding his obscene behaviour where he states, “What is shown on social media has no truth in it because people show whatever they want to show. The truth about the video that went viral is that if you raise anti-India slogans and speak about Kashmir then the person before you will obviously react and not smile and leave. There were 2-3 Pakistanis there who were speaking anti-India things and things on Kashmir. So, it was my natural reaction. I can’t hear anything against my country. So, that was my reaction…”

Then we found out one thing clearly the viral clip has different watermarks shared by different people.

Then we intensifed our search for the users namely @furqannagra and @xTripti with the watermark mentioned in the viral clips, we were not able to locate both the accounts. Fascinatingly, the user @xTripti has posted a message before deleting the account as she has edited the video with different audio can be seen shared by many X users.

Moreover, when we searched further in the comment section where people have pointed out that the video shared by the users with the audio chanting “Bharat Tere Tukde Honge, Inshallah Inshallah” is 7 years old.

When we took that as the cue, and searched more we got the original audio from Aaj Tak news report from February 15, 2016, exactly from the 34 seconds timestamp, we were able to hear the same anti-India slogans. This video was uploded with a title “New Video Claims Anti-National Slogans In JNU.”

This perfectly proves that, the audio is old and from February 2016 during the Jawaharlal Nehru University controversy at the arrest of  Kanhaiya Kumar, the JNU Students Union president and a leader of All India Students Federation (AISF).

However, earlier this May during the IPL match of both the teams Lucknow Super Giants Vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Virat and Gambir got into an ugly spat and they were also fined for their aggressive behaviour.

This ascertains that, the former cricketer Gambir has got triggered of hearing the name of “Virat” chanted and showed his middle finger towards the crowd. That video was then edited with different audios and circulated on social media with misleading claims.

Conclusion:

Therefore, we conclude that Gautam Gambir showed his middle finger towards the crowd because he was irritated to hear his rivalry name Kohli chanted by the crowd. To hide the BJP MLA Gambir’s obscene behaviour the video is edited and doctored with anti-Indian slogans from the JNU event.
