Explanation

The 2-minute 20-second video shows a woman in a pink outfit holding a mic. While watching the whole clip we also noticed Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif sitting on the stage where this woman is heard singing Gayatri Mantra. This post is shared with a claim stating, “Gayatri mantra was chanted during the prime minister’s swearing ceremony in Pakistan.” One can view a similar claim post here.

What’s the truth?

Our investigation began with a pertinent keyword search on the internet, which took us to an India News National YouTube video. Interestingly, we notice that the video dates back to 2017.

The video was captioned “Pakistan: Gayatri Mantra sung in presence of Nawaz Sharif in Holi celebration.”

This 34-second news clip reports that during the Holi celebration, a Muslim girl was singing the Gayatri Mantra in front of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

We took this as a hint and searched the internet and came across another video by BBC News Hindi. This was posted on 21 March 2017 with the caption, “Meet Narodha, Who sang Gayatri Mantra in Pakistan.” We looked into the description box which read “Narodha Malini, who became famous by singing Gayatri Mantra in the presence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a function in Pakistan, had a special conversation with BBC.”

The aforementioned details make it clear that the widely shared video featuring a girl singing the Gayatri Mantra in Pakistan is from a Holi celebration in 2017. This is unrelated to the Pakistani PM’s recent swearing-in ceremony.

Conclusion:

To conclude, the viral claim stating that the Gayatri mantra was chanted during the prime minister’s swearing ceremony in Pakistan is false and misleading. In reality, the video is old and from the 2017 Holi function.
