Periyar is a 2007 film directed by Gnana Rajasekaran and starring Sathyaraj. Ilayaraja composed the music till Gnana Rajasekaran’s previous film Bharathi. However, he did not compose music for the Periyar film. Also, in 2006, it was claimed to be reported that Ilayaraja had refused to compose music for the Periyar film because Ilayaraja was a theist.
In that case, the special interview given by the musician Ilayaraja was published as an article in Junior Vikatan on November 19, 2006.
On it, he said, “They are telling people many stories & reasons that I did not compose the music for the film. I am going to tell you for the first time now what the real reason is and what happened.
(After talking about Subhash Chandra Bose movie) That’s it! A few years later I found out through friends that that director was filming Periyar and had arranged another composer for it. But now, they are giving the news that I have refused to compose music for the Periyar film.”
“Even though I am not a Congressman, I did the music for the film ‘Kamaraj’. Even if I am not a Dravidian, I will not hesitate to serve Periyar with self-respect and honesty. ”
Ilayaraja had mentioned that director Gnana Rajasekaran was claiming that I had refused to compose music for the film. Director Gnana Rajasekaran’s comment on Ilayaraja’s statement is being spread as Ilayaraja said.
In an interview with Keeru in December 2006, director Velu Prabhakaran, who made films based on Periyar principles, said, “Kadavul is the only film in the 75-year history of cinema that has long promoted the principle of denial of God. Ilayaraja composed the music for such a film. Therefore, it is not correct to say that he refused to compose music in the film Periyar because there is a policy of denial of God. ”
In our search, we came to know that the information spread that Ilayaraja said that he will not compose music only for Periyar film no matter how many crores he gives is misinformation. It is also learned that Ilayaraja has denied this in 2006.
