What’s the truth?

Our search for the viral video’s keyframes turned up several articles with the same screen grabs dating back to July 27, 2019. It is clarified from The Quint article titled “Disgrace to Country: Indian Family Caught Stealing in Bali Hotel” reports that the thieves are Indians, not Pakistanis as the widely circulated claim purports.

According to the article, “You’ll find staffers of a hotel in Bali searching an Indian family, who’d just checked out, only to pull out the hotel’s properties from the depths of their luggage. As one of the staffers pulls out more and more of the stolen items from their bags, demanding an explanation, the family members can be heard apologizing, offering him “extra money” and repeatedly reminding him that they have a plane to catch.”

When we advanced our search we got another article from India Today which says, “At first, members of the Indian family are seen arguing with the hotel staff. But that didn’t stop the man from opening every suitcase and taking out things that were stolen from their room – such as towels, electronics, decorative pieces, and other stuff.

Other security officials are also seen frisking their baggage in the video. “I will pay,” one of the family members exclaimed but the man from the hotel refused to take money: “I know you have a lot of money but this is no respect.”

This same incident was also covered by The Straits Times, India Times, NDTV, and many more.

All the above information confirms that the people in the viral video who stole from the hotel are not from Pakistan. Also, the video is old and from 2019.

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the viral video claiming that Pakistanis stole bath accessories from a hotel room in Malaysia is completely false. In reality, the people in the video are Indians, and the incident happened in Bali.
