In the above viral tweet shared with a video, we see a burqa-clad woman complaining, about how they have written “Jai Bholenath” like this on her son’s forehead. We also hear someone asking who did this and she says it’s Shobi’s son Shadab who has done this and says that it is for fun. She further goes on to ask, Does this look like fun? For that, the opposite person asks What’s the name of your son? She says we call him Babu from his young age we call him like that. She also adds that he has been like this from his childhood and he is mentally unstable too. We hear some person asking her where they live, and for that, she says that back of the street. This video is shared by many users claiming that if the Sanatan dharma is preaching this better to bury that. The same video is widely spread on social media which can be seen here and here. Come, let’s check the authenticity of this viral claim.
What’s the truth?
When we started our research using the keywords, we found there were news articles published already regarding this incident in ABP Live on 4 September 2023. According to the article, Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district a person wrote Jai Bholenath on the forehead of a mentally handicapped child. Interestingly, in this case, both the victim and the accused are from the same community. According to information, Shadab, a resident of Premnagar’s Shahbad, wrote ‘Jai Bholenath’ on Danish’s forehead with a tool. When the mentally weak Danish went home and told the whole incident, his family members started a ruckus.
As soon as the police reached the spot after getting information about the matter, they were surprised to see Jai Bholenath written on the forehead. The police asked the family members to lodge a written complaint, after which the family members agreed to lodge the complaint. After the complaint was registered, the police took the accused into custody, but later due to a compromise between the two families, the police did not take any action in this matter.
Moreover, we also got an article published by Prabhatkhabar.com, where we can see the same news with the title, “Shameful act in Bareilly, cousin brother tattooed ‘Jai Bholenath’ on the forehead of a mentally retarded youth, know what happened next.”
Finally, we also got a clarification from the Bareilly Police when they replied to a journalist in X handle while addressing the same issue. According to the police, “Investigation in the case has found that a person named Shadab Khan had written a religious sentence on the forehead of his cousin about 05 days ago with a marker pen, which has now become lighter. The victim’s mother refused to take any action in this regard and has not filed a complaint application.”
Thus, its perfectly clear that, the above incident doesn’t have any communal angle because both the boys belong to the same community.
