In the above viral video, we were able to see a woman wearing a hijab claiming to be the collector in Karnataka paying respect to the national flag has been circulated on social media by the right wing.
Also in the video, the woman was seen riding in a parade float along with some police officers behind her standing in the vehicle.
There are more videos widely spread by different people with similar claims on social media and can be viewed here and here. Come, let’s check the veracity of such claims.
What’s the truth?
An analysis of the keyframes of the viral video through Google reverse image search revealed that the video was not shot in Karnataka.
According to the article published by Greater Kashmir, this video was taken in Kishtwar district in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, where the Independence Day parade was held in the presence of District Development Council Vice Chairman, Saima Parveen Lone and SSP Khalil Ahmed Phoswal at Chowgan Grounds.
The news and photo gallery of the event can also be seen on the official Facebook page of District Administration Kishtwar.
The above evidence clearly proves that the video is circulated with misleading claims on social media that a woman wearing hijab is from Karnataka but in reality, this video is from Jammu Kashmir.
Conclusion:
In our research, we conclude that the video circulating of a collector wearing a hijab and hoisting the national flag on Independence Day was not shot in Karnataka. It is also known that this is a video taken during the Independence Day program held in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district where the Vice President of the District Development Council, Saima Parveen Lone, paid respect to the national flag.
