Explanation
In the above viral tweet shared by a user, we were able to see a poster with the title “Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation Limited Scheme.” In the poster they have briefed about how and for whom the scheme works. According to the poster, under this scheme, 50% of the subsidy on vehicles or up to a maximum of Rs. 3,00,000/- will be given to the beneficiary who buys an auto/ taxi /goods vehicle. There are seven points to keep in mind according to the poster for availing of the scheme. The main eligibility for getting this subsidy is one must belong to the minority religious community.
This above poster is widely spread on social media with the claims stating, that Hindus are paying the tax while the minorities are eligible for schemes. The same post was shared by many users which can be seen here, here, and here.
Moreover, this same poster was also shared by BJP MP @TejasviSurya and Union Minister @Rajeev_GoI also.
Come, let’s check the authenticity of this viral claim.
What’s the truth?
When we started our research using the relevant keywords, we found out that this above scheme is called “Swawalambi Sarathi Scheme.” While we searched further about the scheme, we came across the ojectives and eligibilities of it in the website, which is shared below for your reference.
Objectives of Swawalambi Sarathi Scheme:
Eligibility for Swawalambi Sarathi Scheme:
When we dug a little deep , we found out a tweet regarding the same scheme while BJP was ruling Karnataka during last year October 2022. In that tweet it has responded to a person who asked for the assistance from the Department of Ministry of Welfare, Government of Karnataka, regarding a query asked by the user “Akash Sunil.” For this tweet, the Department of Ministry of Welfare replied saying that, “Each beneficiary will receive a 33% subsidy on vehicle value, up to a maximum of Rs. 2,50,000/-, under this scheme when purchasing an auto rickshaw/taxi/goods vehicle. If the vehicle is still being paid for with a bank loan, the bank letter must be submitted.”
This proves that, the scheme is not new and its available from the BJP period. So, the people from the BJP party spreading this as a new scheme introduced by Congress should kindly check with their respective departments before sharing such misleading claims.
Conclusion:
Therefore, we conclude through our investigation and available evidence that this scheme was already present during the BJP rule and without knowing that the party members are sharing false and misleading claims among the public creating further confusion.
