The post has gone viral on social media, claiming that Pinarayi Vijayan has taken action to create a separate list of “casteless” children of inter-caste married couples in Kerala and give them separate reservation.
However, this post has been viral in Tamil since October 2017, including Facebook. Shared once in the past 2018 as well.
We have been praising Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for more than 3 years on social media and decided to investigate whether the viral information is true or not.
Fact Check:
While searching for any news from the last 2017 regarding the creation of a separate list for the children of inter-caste marriages in Kerala or for providing separate reservation as non-caste, no such news was available.
In contrast, in November 2017, the Kerala government announced that it would implement a 10 per cent reservation for the economically backward in the advanced class in the state’s Devaswom Board job selection.
There have been difficulties in obtaining caste certificates and reservations for those who refuse caste and get inter-caste marriages. When people of different castes got married, the child had to get the caste certificate from the father’s caste.
Although the mother of the child belonged to the SC / ST community, it was not only in Kerala but all over India that certification in that category was easily available. Several cases related to this have gone to court. At present, it has been announced that the certificate can be obtained from the caste section of the mother.
When contacted by Sindhan of the Tamil Nadu Communist Party (Marxist) about the spread of caste-based reservation in Kerala, Sindhan said, “There are many things like subsidies for inter-caste marriages. The reservation policy in India is that two inter-caste marriages and children born to them who belong to the backward class of parents can take that category. The section on casteless will confuse the reservation system.

In March 2020, it was reported that the Government of Kerala had decided to set up ‘safe homes’ for inter-caste couples.
The Kerala Department of Social Justice is providing financial assistance of up to Rs.30,000 Also, if inter-caste marriages couples in government service, they will be given priority to transfer to work. However, there is no law to provide reservation in work.

Explanation
In our search, the information spread over the last 3 years that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has issued an order to place the children of an inter-caste couple on a separate list in the reservation. It is learned that there is no such official information regarding this.
