Does the hoarding from Kerala read ‘If you want to eat beef, vote for Congress’?

*Extremely disgusting* Congress poster in Kerala… *”If you want to eat beef then vote for Congress “* 😡😡 This is the same Rahul Gandhi who roams around as a supreme Shiv Bhakt Hindu and *asks for votes on beef in Kerala..*.

A hoarding printed in Malayalam that has Congress logo and Rahul Gandhi’s photo is shared widely on Twitter with the claim that it is mentioned in the Congress poster to vote for Congress if people want to eat beef. It is also mentioned that the same Rahul Gandhi roams around as a supreme shiv bhakt Hindu and also asks for votes on beef in Kerala. This image was shared with the same claim in 2019 and has resurfaced now. Some of the old posts with the same claim can be seen here and here.

What is the truth?

When the image is translated to English using Google Lens, we found that the claim is false as the words in the hoarding are mistranslated.

The Malayalam words in hoarding “എനിക്കറിയണം
ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ
കൊല്ലുന്നോ? നാട്ടിൽ? കാലത്ത് ?പ്രാകൃത രാഷ്ട്രീയം വേണ്ട വിഭവമില്ലാത്തവർ വരോടു” is translated in English as “I want to know. Killing for food? In this country? At this time?No primitive politics, let the indiscriminate ones come”.

The hoarding does not have anything about beef. But it questions killing for food in the context of killing people in the name of food habits.

With further search, a Facebook post by ‘Voice of IUML’ dated 3, April 2019 is found carrying the poster to ask people to vote for UDF during 2019 Lok Sabha election which was held on 23, April 2019. The post in Malayalam is roughly translated as “Let’s not forget ourselves, vote for UDF. A vote for UDF, a support for Rahulji. Vote for UDF for the good of the country and the salvation of the people vote for UPA”.

It is found that the hoarding does not ask people to vote for Congress if they want to eat beef. This hoarding was from the April 2019 election campaign that questions killing people in the name of food habits.
