According to ABP News, “The Ram Temple in Ayodhya is set to be inaugurated on January 24, 2024. The construction activities at the temple are in full swing to make it ready before the inauguration. The floor inlay work is still under process at the Ram Mandir. However, it is expected to be completed soon.”

In this instance, a lot of videos in the name of Ram Mandir are making the rounds on social media. A sizable throng of people can be seen in the extensively shared video taking pictures and videos with their mobile phones while appreciating the lights. The user asserted that the Ayodhya Shri Ram temple’s electrical work was finished. A crowd of people watches its ethereal sparkle. ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan has also been added to each of these posts. These posts, which make similar claims, can be seen here, here, and here.

What’s the truth?

A Google reverse image search was conducted on a few keyframes that we extracted from the viral video. A similar video from October 17, 2023, was found on the Facebook profile of Tapan Mistry.

Mistry uploaded a collection of seven images and videos to their album with the name “Durga Puja 2023.” “Santosh Mitra Square, Ram Temple” was the caption attached to the photo, which was shared with Kolkata as the location.

Our research clearly shows that the popular video shows the pandal that was built in Kolkata for Durga Puja, with inspiration from the Ram temple theme, rather than the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

As we searched further, we discovered that several news sites, such as Hindustan Times and The Times of India, had reported on the Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata, which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and featured the same widely shared image.

Additionally, we have another article from The Wire discussing how the main focus of Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebrations cannot and should not be the subjugation and dishonor of a specific community. The article is titled “Why the ‘Ayodhya Ram Temple’ Pandal Cannot Be a Centrepiece of Kolkata’s Durga Puja” and was published on 21 October 2023. It’s significant to remember that the viral image is also present in this article.

All the above information confirms that the video in circulation stating the electrical works is ethereal in Ayodhya Ram Temple is misleading.

Therefore, we conclude that the video of a pandal with a Ram Temple theme that was shared during Durga Puja in Kolkata is falsely attributed to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
