Explanation

Mumbai is witnessing heavy rainfall again after a week. The IMD has issued a yellow alert now. A video showing a person falling into an open drainage during rain and being rescued by the swift action of the public is shared to claim that the video is from Borivali East, Mumbai. This video was viral during the first week of July mentioning that it happened during the last week’s rains. It is also written on the video as ‘Dangerous Borivali (East)’. What is the truth?

When watching the video closely we found a signage board written in Tamil near the open drainage. Further search with relevant keywords led us to a tweet dated August 2022 replying to another tweet carrying the viral video. It mentioned that “the incident happened in Hosur, Tamil Nadu where a drunk man lost control and fell into the drainage”, refuting the earlier tweet’s claim that it happened in Bangalore.

With further search, Free Press Journal article titled “Tamil Nadu: Man falls in open drainage during rains at Hosur, people run to rescue; video goes viral”, dated August 2022 is found reporting the incident. The incident is reported to have originated from Hosur somewhere around the Karnataka -Tamil Nadu highway.

Scroll article is also found carrying matching visuals from the viral video. The article titled “Watch: Man falls into drain during heavy rain, this is how passersby rescued him” reported that the incident was caught on camera in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

Conclusion

It is found that an old video of a man falling into an open drainage during rain in Tamil Nadu’s Hosur is disseminated as it happened during recent rainfall in Mumbai’s Borivali East.
