Photo of a model shared as JNU student post the issue of Anti-Brahmin slogans on the walls

Recently, anti-brahmin and anti-baniya graffiti were painted on the walls of the classes in JNU. The slogans say ‘we are coming for’, ‘we will avenge’ and ask the Brahmin and Baniya communities to leave the campus and the country. Following this, an image of a man in a saree is shared mentioning that it is the category of Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University which has problems with Brahmins and Baniyas. What is the truth?

When searching the viral Image with Google Lens, the ‘India.com’ website is found carrying the image as a thumbnail for an article. But the actual page does not have the image in it. The 25, July 2022 dated article is titled “Men in Sarees: Why is Gender Neutral Fashion The Need of Hour And How Indian Men Are Acing it”.

When searching with the keywords from the article, the man in saree is identified as Pushpak Sen from the other articles and images resulted and found that he is from Kolkata. Pushpak Sen posted the viral image on his Instagram page on 22, May 2022.

The ‘Times of India’ article dated 15, May 2018 mentions that he studied at Calcutta University, College Street Campus. The Quint article dated 29, Oct 2021 mentions his study in Florence, Italy.

The ‘Signal Hire’ website mentions that he has done his BA at Asutosh College, MA at Calcutta University, PG Diploma in The Statesman School of Print Journalism, and Master’s degree at Polimoda.


It is found that a photograph of Pushpak Sen, a model is circulated on social media claiming that the former is a JNU student.
