What is the truth?

When searching with relevant keywords we found a video with matching visuals on the ‘India Tv’ YouTube channel. The video dated 14, December 2011 is titled “Kissa Kursi Ka : PM, Sonia Exchange Seats At UPA Meeting”. The video shows matching visuals from the viral video. It can be seen in the video that both the chairs are placed in the same row just that the seats assigned to both of them are in mid-left and mid-right. This proves that he was not made to sit on the side.

The description part reads “It was not a case of musical chairs, but the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had to exchange their seats on Tuesday evening at 7, Race Course Road, the Prime Minister’s residence.”

An article by India TV News reported that the then Prime Minister came and sat on the chair allotted for Sonia Gandhi, while Sonia Gandhi sat on the chair of Manmohan Singh. When Special Protection Group (SPG) officials noticed this, they requested both Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh to swap seats after which both swapped their seats.

Another glimpse of Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh exchanging their seats can be seen in a video uploaded on ETV Andhra Pradesh Youtube channel in December 2011.

Earlier, a couple of other video clips were shared to claim that the main seat was denied to Manmohan Singh by Sonia Gandhi during the meetings with the foreign delegates. Youturn fact-checked and published articles on them.

Conclusion

It is found that Manmohan Singh was not lifted from his seat during the meeting or made to sit on the side as claimed. It is to be noted that Manmohan Singh sat on the chair allotted for Sonia Gandhi and the latter sat on the chair assigned to Manmohan Singh, and hence SPG guards interrupted and asked them to swap their seats.
