Meanwhile, an image that says “Police shoots hijab-clad woman after she screams ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’ at metro station in Paris” is being circulated on social media platforms. This image is being shared on Instagram and Facebook.
What is the truth?
One of the images displays a watermark ‘wall_of_fact’ and when searching the Instagram handle of ‘The Wall of Fact’, we found a post with the same image that is being shared. However, the description part details the incident. The post mentions that the hijab-clad woman had threatened fellow passengers on a train by yelling out “You are all going to die” and “Allah-hu-Akbar”.
The same post further mentions that she refused to comply with police orders after which she was shot by the police. However, she did not have any explosives at the time she was shot.
Reuters covered the incident on 31, October 2023 reporting that it happened the same day morning in a metro station. Laurent Nunez, Paris police chief told Reuters that the fully veiled woman was behaving in a threatening manner as she shouted “Allah-hu-Akbar” and “You are all going to die”.
Police initially asked her to show her hands to ensure that she did not poses any weapons. But she refused to comply with the summons, and then they had to open fire given the danger of the situation. She was shot in the abdomen and was transferred to a nearby hospital. The identity of the woman is yet to be confirmed, reported Reuters.
