An animation video is shared widely on social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube with the claim that it was created by NASA after studying that there are 14 lokas as per Vedas. It is also quoted in the post to feel proud about being a Hindu and Indian. Posts with such a claim can be seen here, here, and here. This video is doing the rounds on the internet claiming to be created by NASA since 2019.
What is the truth?
When reverse-searching the keyframes of the viral video we found a few links relevant to it.
Temple of the Vedic Planetarium Youtube channel posted this video in July 2015 and again in January 2021 as a part of fundraising.
The first video dated 22, July 2015 titled ‘Temple of the Vedic Planetarium Universal Chandelier Presentation’ is mentioned as a Project of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The description part reads, “The Temple of the Vedic Planetarium, now under construction in West Bengal, India and scheduled to open in 2023, is named as such because within its main dome it will house a 3-dimensional, moving model of the universe according to the Vedic scriptures. This explanation describes the planetary systems and all the universal contents to be in the shape of an incredible chandelier.”
The description part of the second video posted on 11, January 2021 mentions that the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium, currently under construction in Mayapur, West Bengal, India by ISKCON will be the world’s first Vedic Temple/ Planetarium combination and the largest modern temple in India. The mobile cosmic chandelier, depicted in the computer model will hang from the ceiling of the main dome about 200′ down. It will exhibit the authentic Vedic conception of the universe according to the ancient and sacred writings of India’s Vedas. The temple/ planetarium is scheduled to open in 2024. The end of the video shows the sample structure of the temple mentioning it as a project of ISKCON which is removed in the viral video.
The earliest posted video was found on the Shyamasundara Dasa Youtube channel on 2, March 2014 with the title “hare krishna CULT conception of the Structure of the Universe”. This video started with Antardwip Das, Project Consultant- Cosmology explaining the viral animation video.
When searching for the project consultant who explained the video, we found him listed as a team member on the TOVP website.
Conclusion
It is found that a computer model video of a temple/planetarium combination being constructed in West Bengal is shared as an animation video created by NASA.
